Below is the current list of available downloads. The latest recommended version is 1.5.3. As of release 1.2.3, the software requires that a Java 1.5 (also known as J2SE 5.0) run-time environment be installed on your system.

For Windows and Linux users, Java 1.5 is available for download from java.sun.com. Note that if you are not a Java developer, you only need the Java runtime environment JRE version to run the Cidero applications, not the full-blown development kit (JDK).

For MacOSX 10.4 (Tiger) users, Java 1.5 is available as a manual download from www.apple.com.

Installation Instructions

Versions 1.5 and above provide operating-system specific installation bundles using the 'install4j' GUI-based installer package. Installation of the software using this method is reasonably self-exaplanatory. Note that on the Windows platform, one should now be able to install the software in the more traditional 'D:\Program Files\Cidero' directory and not have to worry about directories with spaces in the filename as in past releases.

If you are using the older-style .ZIP install, then the previous installation instructions apply. They may be found in the README file. The README is also available in the 'doc' subdirectory once the software is installed

CideroApps_windows_1_5_2.exe 8/20/06 3.13M Experimental version 1.5.2 of the application bundle for Windows. This version has a couple of Dlink DSM 320/520 patches. One patch changes the way the DLink devices are auto-detected, so it does not depend on the name assigned to the unit at system setup time (the controller needs to know if it is talking to a DLink box to enable some DLink-specific patches). With this change, the DLink 320/520 devices, and the DLink server, should show up with DLink-specific icons (if not something is wrong). The second change of significance is a patch to the low-level UPnP message code to better handle extended character sets, to address a 'hanging' problem when the controller was used with the DLink media server.
